I began my career as an accounts assistant for a retail company with over 200 units in our region, this is where my interest in finance began and I started a HND in business and finance. After 4 years the travel bug got me and I lived and worked in Spain for the next 2 years. Following my return, I was asked to return to the same company as Administration Manager for the Northern Region. I continued my studies with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and am currently a licenced member in practice of the Association of Accounting Technicians MAAT.
I have worked in a local accountancy practice for 7 years, as a semi-senior with a mixed client base which included sole traders, partnerships, small limited companies, trusts and personal tax clients. Following this I was the Management Accountant for a local pub chain, overseeing the accounting functions for 15 Taverns across the Yorkshire region, producing and reporting on all financial statements and managing payroll for all departments.
Having previously worked and studied in both accountancy practice and in industry I have gathered not only the skills to produce accurate accounts and HMRC returns but also the experience to guide you through the financial processes within your business.
I started my working life as a cashier at Barclays Bank. Following a year of travel and a few moves around “Gods own County”, I pursued my accounts career working for small companies, dealing with Sales, Purchase Ledger, Payroll and accounts to trial balance.
A move to Harrogate enabled me to work for the Harrogate International Centre as an Accounts/Management Assistant. Following responsibilities including the sales ledger and the reconciliation of Entertainment accounts, I diversified my development and progressed to Human Resource Manager, a position held for over 8 years– helping staff and managers with all aspects of people management.
A work- life balance change enabled me to take a position at a local company in Knaresborough where I helped with accounts, payroll and stock reconciliations. Here I worked with Kay and following the redundancy of all accounts staff, we decided to join up as partners and start our own Accountancy Practice to help people/businesses in the local area.
